About Our Hatchery

Chicken Math Got Us

Our story started, as maybe yours did too, with chicken math. A love for homesteading here in central Indiana quickly led to a passion for incubating hatching eggs & collecting the most beautiful, unique and hearty breeds. Now we have expanded and want to share our love of these breeds with fellow homesteaders,

small backyard tenders & hobbyists across the country (that's the "& Co" in our name!). You won't find birds like ours at your local farm store!

We are just a small, family-owned hatchery; not one of those massive corporations churning out quantity instead of quality. Our birds are all at home with us on our 20 acre farm, which allows us to be really hands-on with the daily care and selective breeding of our stock to ensure they maintain our high standards in humane treatment and quality. We raise their parents, incubate here in the house and package everything ourselves!

We breed for health, personality, and confirmation/color. We choose breeds that are hard to find and not available at most major hatcheries.

Like many homesteaders, we originally got into raising our own eggs and  meat to ensure the birds are treated humanely, so transparency with our customers in the care we provide is really important to us.

Our goal first and foremost is to always provide all our birds with a humane, clean, healthy and happy life.

Our birds and set up can be seen on our homesteading youtube channel, The Homestead Trail!

To minimize the risks of shipping, we only use the best shipping methods and materials and only ship during mild weather. We do everything we can to make our customers and chicks have a positive shipping experience, but we do have a refund policy that can be found under our policies page should the unexpected happen.

We want to provide high quality and healthy birds at reasonable prices to fellow enthusiasts. If you have any questions, comments or concerns feel free to give us a shout at info@homesteadandcohatchery.com. We'd love to hear recommendations on new breeds to add to our program!
